About Sam McAlister
Sam McAlister started as a practising criminal barrister before spending ten years as a Newsnight TV producer and journalist. Her colleagues called her the booker extraordinaire. She secured interviews against the odds with those the public ravenously wanted to scrutinise. Her interviewees included Julian Assange, Stormy Daniels, and Prince Andrew. They sought the limelight as enthusiastically as a vampire at dawn. So, how did Sam McAlister persuade them otherwise?
Her book Scoops, now the NETFLIX movie Scoop, reveals all - as will her talk on 7 October at Revellers' Club.
As one Five Star Reviewer put it...
I got this after seeing the Netflix film. I wasn't expecting to be riveted, but I was blown away with this book.
Extraordinary Stories
You'll get snapshots of the most shocking, infamous, or grossly victimised interviewees' stories, including those about Putin admiring martial arts film star Steven Seagal (he walked out of his interview), Julian Assange, Brigitte Hoss (daughter of Auschwitz Kommandant Rudolf Hoss), Gina and Amanda (kidnapped girls held hostage for ten years), Stormy Daniels, Mel Greig (the Royal Hoax DJ) and of course HRH Prince Andrew.
Some of what you'll discover at the talk
* Sam's simple but effective approach to securing TV interviews, even with celebrities cowering from publicity, which anyone wanting to understand the art of persuasion can adopt.
* The insider's view of how the BBC and Newsnight work and how and why they are now less impartial.
* What Sam saw sitting 15' behind HRH Prince Andrew as he was claiming to the World how he "doesn't sweat".
* The BBC stars that are hot - and those who are not.
* The hoax call on the Duchess of Cambridge at King Edward VII Hospital led to a nurse committing suicide. Hence, the shocking, life-threatening and career-wrecking public humiliation meted out to Mel Greig. She became known as Royal Hoax DJ. But what of her co-presenter, Michael Christian, who was equally involved? He got off scot-free. Sam will explain why and why Mel agreed to the interview.
* How Sam survived the torrid atmosphere at the BBC when even some top presenters thought management would fire them anytime.
* The amusing and previously unmentioned production cock up that meant Jeremy Paxman was snatching victory from the jaws of defeat by asking Michael Howard the same question twelve times over.
